SY "LEU"

HIGH PERFORMANCE SLOOP / RACER / DAYSAILER

An Innovative Concept for a Sailing Yacht

Five years before its completion, the owner of LEU had a clear vision. The avid sports sailor envisioned a combination of a daysailer and a racer—a boat that could be sailed by one or two crew members in cruising mode, yet also be used with a larger crew for regattas.

The design, developed by the engineering firm judel/vrolijk & co, realizes the owner’s vision with an innovative concept. The nearly 14-meter-long boat is light, agile, and fast, yet still maintains high stability.

A deep lifting keel supports its dual-use functionality. The deck layout and the arrangement of lines and sails are adaptable to different needs. The design is simple and functional, yet elegant. We embraced the challenge of realizing LEU because we find the concept of this unusual boat fascinating. We share the owner’s commitment to uncompromising quality, and we were able to fully leverage our shipyard’s strengths—our handpicked team of specialists, extensive manufacturing capabilities, and high flexibility—in building the LEU.

Uncompromising Quality in Every Element

The unique requirements of LEU necessitated custom solutions in many areas. The task can be summed up simply: perfection in every detail. Both boatbuilding and technical expertise are equally important. The hull, made of fiberglass and Kevlar, and the deck, made of carbon fibers, were constructed using infusion techniques over positive molds. The deck geometry meets the highest standards of aesthetics and functionality. The electrical systems, electronics, and IT are state-of-the-art, with the yacht being fully controlled via a touchscreen. Every line and every cut—everything on this first-class yacht lives from impeccably clean craftsmanship and great attention to detail.

The success of the combined daysailer/racer concept was evident right after the launch of LEU on August 24, 2008. On its fifth sailing day, the newly completed boat competed in the Schleimünde-Ærøskøbing regatta and won first place in the Yardstick category under 86. Less than two weeks later, it achieved another group victory in the doublehand category at the Flensburger Fördewoche.

MARIE

ELECTRIC PASSENGER BOAT

Commissioned by the Bürgerparkverein Bremen, Bootswerft Winkler constructed the new MARIE in 2013. This boat is a homage to the original excursion vessel of the same name, which had been navigating the park’s waters since 1908 but was lost during World War II. The boat was named after Marie Hagemann, the wife of the then tenant of the dairy still located in the Bürgerpark.

Our new build is a modern interpretation of the original plans, incorporating many contemporary enhancements. Constructed from laminated larch wood and finished with high-gloss mahogany on the exterior, MARIE boasts a refined, classic look. It is powered by an environmentally friendly, silent electric motor, and a small bow thruster facilitates docking. The MARIE can accommodate 30 passengers plus crew and has an operating time of approximately 10 hours, enabling it to operate both day and night without the need for recharging.

Today, the new MARIE offers a one-and-a-half-hour round trip with four docking points for boarding and disembarking throughout the Bürgerpark. The scenic route includes views of the Waldbühne, the Meierei, the animal enclosures, the restaurant „emma am see,“ and the Emmasee. Feel free to see our new vessel in action on its picturesque journeys.
